From Convenience to Dependence: Are we relying too much on AI?
“Hey, have you decided yet on the course?”
“Not really! When I asked ChatGpt it suggested Data Science would be a good option for me”.
What went through your mind when you read that conversation? Did you picture yourself saying that or did some other person come to your mind?
Recent data shows that Chatgpt has over 400 million weekly users. Is every user using it in the right way? Are we using AI as an assistant or are we letting it do all our work?

The right or wrong way of using AI
The right or wrong way of using a tool is in the hands of the user. It’s their perspective that goes there. Imagine asking an AI: What food should I eat today? Do you think I should switch jobs? Which career do you think suits me? Should I text my Ex?
AI has become so unavoidable in our daily lives. Based on the data from Semrush in February 2025, ChatGpt ranks #8 in the world’s most visited websites.
It is a good thing that many people are aware of such a tool. AI was invented to make human life more convenient, to reduce repetitive work, and to be an assistant. What was meant to be an assistance now became more like a dependence.
Using AI to educate you on topics you’re unaware of is fine, using AI to give you a structure on how to write is fine, using AI to clear a doubt is fine; but relying on it too much and blindly following it is not fine!
Use AI for learning – but analyze and verify the information it provides us. Because even AI can be wrong. It’s working on the data with which it had been trained on.
Use AI to give you ideas – to spark your creativity, but don’t copy them. See it as an inspiration or reference. If you’re letting AI do it, what more is there for you to do?
What makes Humans unique from AI
AI is a powerful tool when used correctly. Mastering these tools is a great skill. AI is here to assist us. But what we should be aware of is that, to not let AI do the thinking for us.
Having the ability to think both logically and emotionally, creativity, art, and empathy are all the core essence of being a human. That’s what cannot be replaced by any AI tools. But when we are making AI do all of these by giving them prompts and using the ready-made answer it gave us – we are letting AI take the opportunity we got to think for ourselves, the problem-solving and reasoning ability we have – ultimately the human creativity.
The Underlying Risk that comes with
A solution is there where there is a need present. All inventions are meant to solve our problems, to make things easier, and to reduce the repetitive work we do. Ultimately to make our lives convenient. It can be said that Artificial Intelligence is one of the greatest inventions made. AI for sure is making us more productive but at the same time, it also has the power to make us mentally lazy. That is where we need to draw a boundary between. The risk of over-dependency is always there.
Don’t let AI be the decision maker. That is for us to do. Don’t let AI and over-dependency or over-reliance weaken our ability to think and act. AI should be used to educate us, to clear our doubts, to minimize repetitive work. And let us do the questioning and analyzing.
I’ve seen people who blindly follow AI, and use it for almost everything. But what cost does it come with? When we are letting AI do everything and share everything, there is our privacy at stake. And the fact that, for example, ChatGpt gives us answers based on our prompts. If we ask it to do a particular thing and it, initially told that it won’t be able to generate the answer for so and so reasons; the same thing if you ask in a different way it might generate the answer. Because AI can be biased. It can be inaccurate.
Conclusion
AI is not a recent invention. It’s just that it became mainstream in the last few years. From the early 1900s till now and it’s going to stay beyond and forever. With how technology is evolving more such powerful tools are many more to come. So what we should hold so close to our hearts and realize is how special and unique it is to be a human. The thinking ability humans have, the empathy and emotions we hold, and the emotional, creative and logical ability are all that shouldn’t be traded for any invention. So the next time when you are using AI just ask yourself, “Is this something I can do by myself? Do I really need to ask the help of AI?”. Trust your own ideas.
